Hug Point is one of our favorite locations--and not just because of its name (although it helps!). Located just south of Cannon Beach, this small beach is easily accessible from the parking lot and is well shielded from the North Coast wind on most days.
Hug Point offers a peek at some interesting history. Imagine travelling by stagecoach along the beach (before the highway was built, the beach was the only way to go). North of the parking area you can still walk along the original trail carved into the point by the stagecoaches. The wayside was named after this trail because it hugs the point. Looking further north, Haystack Rock--one of the most identifiable landmarks along the coastline--is easily visible.
As you look south on Hug Point beach, there is a lovely area perfect for elopements. (See photo at left.) The three rock formations (you can only see two in this photo) form a secluded enclave with a spectacular view. We call these rocks The Three Graces. One of the rocks actually has a spherical side (see photo below) which appears to be tailor made to fit five--you, your witnesses and your officiant!
