Planning to Have a Friend Perform Your Ceremony?
Lesley Wise
I was born and raised in the South London area of England. Yes I still speak with an English accent at times, but it's not nearly as pronounced as the Cockney I grew up speaking! I am the eldest of six children, with a large extended family of countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Family was everything to us growing up; large family gatherings, holidays and of course weddings, many, many weddings!
From a very early age I was introduced to helping at family weddings. At five I started as a bridesmaid for the first of many times, then we all had our little jobs; plan the meal, bake and ice the cake, decorate the reception hall, arrange the flowers, sew the dresses, borrow the fanciest car for the 'get away' and all take pictures. It was pure joy to all have a hand in so much family love and joy.
Skip forward a few more weddings and dozen or so years later, I moved to California and got married in the smallest of weddings I have ever been to; six close friends on a snowy Reno evening! I thought it was romantic and the most fun I'd ever had at a wedding!

The following 20 or so years I lived in the beautiful wine country of Sonoma County, California, Weddings are everywhere there so it made sense I would be part of it all. While raising kids, I designed and made wedding dresses in my own business for about nine of those years, worked at a five star resort in the special events and wedding department, (I think we did about three weddings each day, each weekend, phew!) I planned weddings and parties for friends and with friends and became the event manager for our small town's, very large, one-day summer event.
Moving to Portland, Oregon in 2001, I took a break from event planning to enjoy what the Pacific Northwest had to offer. I love it here in Oregon, it reminds me of England. I enjoy my little English garden with lots and lots of flowers, going for walks and exploring new towns and villages! My husband Rob and I also started a video production company in 2001. Specializing in weddings and special events, it took us to some of the most beautiful places here in Oregon with some of the nicest people. But I missed being in the middle of all that organized chaos of the event world.
Stepping out from behind the camera in 2009, I now manage a large summer event. It keeps me in touch with my community, I make wonderful new friends all the time and I see families come back week after week to enjoy the fun and excitement of being together. But even without trying, it seems that wherever I go and what ever I do, I always comeback to weddings.
Rob and I have five girls! Weddings happen here too. With a little help from me, of course, Paula was married in Reno, just like her mom 29 years ago, six friends and the best time ever. Olivia was married on the beach in Hawaii, in bare feet, with family and friends around her. With three more to go, they too have their own idea of the 'perfect' wedding.
My idea of the perfect wedding is one where friends and family gather to celebrate. It is not the number of people who attend, the location of the ceremony, or the words that are spoken, but the love that is shared. I bring my experience of family, love, marriage, life and of course, weddings, full circle to join you and your family and friends together. I obtained my officiating credentials because I wanted to add that last piece of the wedding experience to my journey. I joined Lyssabeth's Wedding Officiants because of their philosophy, passion and commitment to excellence, and the extraordinary!
In the personality world of the 'color code' I am a 'yellow'. We love to have fun and enjoy life! Yellow shines with optimism, enlightenment, and happiness. They are creative outgoing and communicate well.
I look forward to sharing your day with you and making it your most fun and treasured memory.
